Movie rankings methodology

Mrankings is a project that tries to rank movies and tries to follow the following question; what makes a good movie?  The ranking is made according to the bloggers view of what is a good piece of art. According to this view a good movie should follow this three criteria:

  1. Critics opinion: Critics and experts should corroborate the technical qualities of the work of art.
  2. Peoples Opinion: Audiences should enjoy and appreciate the work.
  3. Influence: The movie should be seen by a lot of people.

In the table we have examples of movies that gave good scores in only two criteria. 35 Shots of Rum is a great French movie by the director Claire Denis. Everyone that have seen the movie seems to like it and critics also think it is a great work. However, the movie quite unknown and did not reach many homes or movie theatres. Man on Fire, in the other hand wan seen by a lot of people that actually enjoyed it. However, critics think poorly about it. Last and least, Spy kids was seen by many and critics somehow think it is a good movie, but the audience did not appreciated it.

Finally Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind of the Director Michel Gondry and starring Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet, is a movie that was seen by everyone and was acclaimed by the public and critics. Hence, it can be considered a good movie and work of art.
